Why I could not be given the job seeker’s allowance.
Just after getting out of tertiary learning, I started to seek employment as aggressively as I could because I had this determination to get independent as fast as I could. But due to one reason or another, it took quite sometime before I was able to get employed. After meeting with a certain friend of mine, he impressed on me the need for me to apply for the job seeker’s allowance. At this time I had already applied for the income support but since I did not know any better, I went ahead to also apply for the JSA. Many of my peers who we had applied for benefits of jsa got their benefits but mine was simply not coming. It was not until I visited the issuing offices for the benefit that I was informed that my eligibility was affected by the fact that I had applied and was already receiving income support. This was after a fairly long period of waiting and I was even much annoyed when I learned that I was eligible for more cash for the JSA than what I was receiving for income support. Had I made early inquiries I would have started earning the benefit long ago. This is why I normally advice people to always be quick to ask for qualifications of benefits they are interested in early enough. Not long ago a friend of mine who is crippled wrote me an email informing me that she wanted to apply for disability benefits and asked for some advice. Well I sent her a very short mail. I told her, “Ask yourself do i qualify for disability benefits?” She did, got all the requirements right and now she receives disability benefits.
