Why Goal setting is an effective mental skill.
You are an athlete or a player and have always had the desire to be a great sports figure with a good reputation and amount to great success. To begin with, at least you have a sense or direction. But what next? I have come to learn from reading many different books from sports psychologists that one of the most effective and highly important mental training skills is goal setting. A player who has set a certain level for themselves where they want to reach and are determined to do so can easily become the greatest that there has been. Effective goal setting not only means that one sets a certain standard for themselves but also clearly outlines how they are going to reach this level. They clearly put doing what they are going to do to ensure that they realize their dreams. With determination comes commitment and there a player can easily concentrate during games. The player is normally willing to pay the price, change whatever behavior that he/she believes is ruining their game and come out stronger in their quest of achieving their goals. Goal setting makes and individual divert all their attention towards their game and general performance and it has been proven that players who normally have set certain goals for themselves experience a very high level of concentration in during the game and often perform very well. Having your own sports goals will also make you have the necessary motivation and energy to go the extra mile in your sporting career as you will be determined to achieve your goals. Goal setting is also one way of creating a healthy team spirit as the team works together to meet their set and agreed upon team goals.
