The Hindrance And Joy Of Retro Computer Monitors And RS232 Connectors
My mom happily bought our first family personal computer back in the 90′s. I was in elementary back then, and my little baby sister was only two years old. My mom did not teach us how to use it, she let us use it the way we want to. It was a windows 95 model complete with softwares to our hearts desire. My sister knew how to use the computer at the tender age of two. At first I was hesitant to use it because it was expensive and i didn’t want the computer to get busted in my hands. My mom would kill me because she looks forward to play solitaire after work. Problems start to arise after five years, yes, it lasted for five years. First, “how do i fix my screen by rotating it?” I always thought that our computer monitor would last, but it didn’t. We tried every thing we could do that we found on the internet. We replaced it with a new one, but lo and behold the screen still needs to be rotated. So needless to say after five years that was the first and last time we got our windows 95 to a technician. Year 2000 was the mark of the release of windows ME, we bought the new one and it has USB connections on it instead of the traditional RS232 hub. how to connect rs232 to usb is beyond me, we wanted to use our old mouse and keyboard to it but then we had to buy a new one that it compatible with our new CPU. The hindrance behind old retro computers is irrefutable and obvious, the joy that you can find in those things are the long lasting durability of the computers back then.
