There a number of different types of Labradoodle coats and the fun thing about getting a new litter of puppies is that it’s a guessing game as to the color and type of fur the dogs might have. There are a number of different fur combinations for the fur on Australian Labradoodles and generally speaking, there are three types of main coats and three levels of waviness. A coat will either be wool, fleece or flat and the wave level of the fur will be curly, wavy or straight. It is not uncommon for wool and fleece coats to vary a bit on a particular dog and this means that sometimes a coat that is considered fleece may have a small woolen area while a wool coat might have a place or two that looks like fleece.

Generally, a fleece or wool coat will be about eighty or ninety percent one type of coat and then a bit of another type of coat. To expand on those coat types, a woolen coat will usually be somewhat coarse but will be very thick and shaggy. A fleece type of coat will be more soft and silky. A flat goat will be wiry or like hair and may actually feel like the coat a person might wear. Each hair has a texture to it.

Regarding the waviness of the coats, a curly coat is very obviously curly and all of the strands will rope into curls of about one inch in diameter. Wavy hair is slightly curled but will not loop over around itself like a curly coat. Straight hair is essentially flat.
